The Central, like other local theatres, changed their films three times a week. In order to meet demand, the studios produced many more movies than they do today. This 1931 double-bill featuring "Sporting Blood" and "Side Show" was typical. While the critic Leslie Halliwell called "Sporting Blood" "unremarkable programme fodder," the ad claimed it ranked with "Big Parade" and "Ben Hur." It also noted the presence of "the screen's fascinating new favorite," Clark Gable.
